Yoga nidra is a powerful lying-down guided practice that helps you regulate and reset your nervous system, optimize your sleep, and gain emotional and spiritual health. It’s the keystone teaching behind most deep rest practices.
A helpful frame for the practice of yoga nidra (translated as yogic sleep) is that of NSDR (non sleep deep rest). This term was coined by neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman. NSDR refers to practices like yoga nidra that help you self-direct relaxation and learning while in a motionless yet aware state. Dr. Huberman coined this phrase because it’s a straightforward description of what yoga nidra is, and can be helpful for an audience that may not immediately grasp its meaning.
